The Doctor of Philosophy, Field: Infomatics Engineering (PECI) is offered on a full-time basis. The programme is offered only at the UTM Main Campus in Johor Bahru. The duration of study for the programme is subjected to the student’s entry qualifications and lasts between three (3) years to a maximum of eight (8) years.

The programme is offered full-time only and is based on a 2-Semester per-academic session. This is a full research programme. The candidate is supervised by a qualified academic staff. The directed research work introduces candidates to the process by which new knowledge is developed and applied accordingly. Assessment is done by examining first assessment reports (research proposal), each semester’s progress reports, and thesis examination (viva-voce).

Research (course code PEC***00), to be taken every semester until the submission of a thesis.

PLO3:Integrate highly advanced and specialized research methodologies based on the
forefront knowledge and latest development in the field of Computing to solve complex
research problems with reasonable degree of originality.
PLO4:Demonstrate decent collaboration with peers, scholarly communities and society at large in the relevant field of expertise and research.
PLO5:Communicate effectively the knowledge, skills, ideas and research findings using appropriate methods to peers, scholarly communities, and societies through various
medium.
PLO6:Use, improve existing or develop new appropriate tools or methodologies using a broad range of digital technology, media and software to support and enhance research activities.
PLO7:Demonstrate skills in designing, critical evaluation, and analysing numerical and graphical data using quantitative or qualitative tools to support and enhance research
activities.

General University Requirements:
Must meet the minimum qualification requirements:
a) A Master’s Degree in the field or a related field recognized by the University Senate; or
b) Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree recognized by the Government of Malaysia;
c) Candidates without relevant qualifications in the field or relevant work experience must undergo a prerequisite course as determined by the Faculty/School.
If the candidate has completed a prerequisite course through:
i. Micro-credentials; or
ii. MOOCs; or
iii. Elective courses taken during Bachelor’s or Master’s studies, evidence of course results can be submitted to UTM for registration purposes.

English Language Requirements (for International Students):
International students applying for postgraduate programs at UTM must meet the following English language proficiency requirements:
a) IELTS Band 6.0 and above; or
b) TOEFL iBT score of 60 and above; or
c) Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) with a score of B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE), Linguaskill with a score of 169 and above; or
d) PTE Academic with a score of 59 and above; or
e) Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 4 and above; or
f) ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) with Level 108 and above; or
g) Any examination aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with a minimum score of B2.
Exemptions from the English language requirement may be granted to international students from countries where English is the official language of instruction or to those who have obtained academic qualifications from institutions in countries where English is the official language of instruction.
Students who do not meet the English language requirements may enroll in the Intensive English Programme (IEP) at the UTM Language Academy or CIEP at any ELS Language Centre for up to one year from the date of registration. After completing and passing the program, students must take an examination aligned with CEFR and achieve a minimum score of B2 to be eligible for admission to UTM.

For international students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements, a conditional offer may be considered under the following conditions:
a) The student must enroll in an English preparation course designated by UTM.
b) The student must take an examination aligned with CEFR and achieve a minimum score of B2 after completing the course.
