The doctor of philosophy in Petroleum Engineering is designed to address the need for skilled Petroleum Engineering scientists, professionals, and research fellows by integrating knowledge of petroleum engineering, research and analytical skills. The programme targets both postgraduates and experienced candidates with the aims to provide quality post-graduate education to enhance the career opportunity and development of candidates.

The programme offered full-time at the UTM Johor Bahru campus with access to the laboratories, computer labs and other nessecities for research. This programme is open to candidates with a master’s degree in Science, Technology, or Engineering. Graduates from other disciplines with more than five years’ experience in the oil and gas industry are encouraged and welcomed to apply. The minimum study duration is 3 years (6 semesters), and the maximum is 8 years (16 semesters).

PEO 1: Graduates effectively incorporate the in-depth scholarship of petroleum engineering knowledge, research and problem solving skills to formulation and solution of diverse petroleum engineering problems taking into account safety, environmental, economic and societal impacts.
PEO 2: Graduates communicate effectively to convey and acquire technical ideas, information, and recommendations in a multi-disciplinary environment.
PEO 3: Graduates responsibly practice professional ethics with appreciation for the value of continuing professional development in maintaining their professional competence.

PLO1 – Able to demonstrate continuing and advanced knowledge in gas engineering and have the capabilities to further develop or use these in new situations or multi-disciplinary contexts
PLO2 – Able to analyse and evaluate critically problems in gas engineering, particularly in situations with limited information and to provide solutions through the application of appropriate tools and techniques
PLO3 – Able to appraise available information and research evidence and apply it in the gas engineering context
PLO4 – Able to plan and perform research undertakings professionally, ethically and responsibly
PLO5 – Able to report technical findings in both written and oral forms
PLO6 – Able to recognise the needs for continuing professional development
