General University Requirements: The general entry requirements for students into UTM’s postgraduate programs are based on the Guidelines for Evaluating Student Entry Requirements into UTM Graduate Programs Amendment 1/2013, approved by the Senate Meeting No. 10/2012/2013 on April 19, 2013.

Specific Requirements: Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, OR a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Candidates with a CGPA below 2.50 may be accepted subject to strict internal evaluation, provided they have five (5) years of relevant work experience.

Pre-Master Requirements (for candidates without a Civil Engineering background): The pre-master requirements previously set by the school at the undergraduate level have been abolished. Other engineering background or related to geotechnical engineering (i.e. geologist) can be considered

Special Requirements for Persons with Disabilities (OKU): The category of disabilities considered includes those with physical disabilities that do not impede the students from performing tasks in the laboratory.

English Language Requirements (for international students):

International students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs at UTM must meet the following English language proficiency requirements:

IELTS Band 6.0 and above; or
TOEFL iBT score of 60 and above; or
Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) with B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE); or
PTE Academic score of 59 and above; or
Malaysian University Entrance Test (MUET) Band 4 and above; or
ELS Certified Intensive English Program (CIEP) Level 108 and above; or
Any examination aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with a minimum score of B2.

Exemptions from the English language requirements may be granted to international students from countries where English is the official medium of instruction or to those who have academic qualifications from institutions in countries where English is the official language.
Students who do not meet these requirements may take the Intensive English Program (IEP) to improve their English proficiency at the Language Academy, UTM, or the CIEP at any ELS Language Centre for a period of one year from the date of registration. After completing and passing the course, students must take an examination aligned with the CEFR, achieving a minimum score of B2 to be accepted for studies at UTM.

For international students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements, conditional offers may be considered as follows:
i. International students must take the English preparatory course prescribed by UTM.

ii. International students enrolled in the English preparatory course must sit for an examination aligned with the CEFR with a minimum score of B2.
