The Master of Engineering in Environmental Management is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge and technical expertise to tackle environmental challenges using engineering and management solutions. By integrating environmental science, engineering principles, and sustainability strategies, this program prepares graduates to develop innovative and practical solutions to complex environmental issues. It is ideal for professionals and graduates aiming to advance their careers in environmental sustainability, resource management, pollution control, and regulatory compliance. This program takes a multidisciplinary approach, blending scientific research, policy analysis, and technological applications to provide a well-rounded education. Students will develop competencies in environmental risk assessment, pollution control, sustainable resource management, and environmental management systems. Graduates will be well-equipped for roles in environmental consultancy, government agencies, manufacturing industries, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

General University Requirements:
The admission requirements for the Master of Engineering (Environmental Management) program are as follows:
i) A Bachelor’s degree in a science and technology-related field or an equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate; AND
ii) A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.50/4.00; OR
iii) A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 but less than 2.50/4.00, must have five (5) years of work experience in a relevant field.
English Language Competency Requirements for Postgraduate Students
a) Local Students
English language competency requirements are not mandatory.
b) International Students
International students who wish to pursue postgraduate programs at UTM must meet the following English language competency requirements:
i) Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum score of Band 4.0 or higher; OR
ii) IELTS with a minimum score of Band 6.0 or higher; OR
iii) TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 60 or higher; OR
iv) Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) – B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE) with a minimum score of 168 or higher; OR
v) Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic with a minimum score of 59 or higher; OR
vi) Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) Level with a minimum score of 109 or higher.
Exemptions from the English language requirement may be granted to international students who:
Are from countries where English is the official language, OR
Have obtained academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the medium of instruction and plan to further their studies in Malaysia.
International students who do not meet the above requirements may enroll in the Intensive English Programme (IEP) at UTM’s Language Academy or the Certified Intensive English Program (CIEP) at any ELS Language Center in Malaysia for a maximum period of one year from the date of registration.
Upon completion, students must take the MUET or any of the exams listed in sections (i) to (v) to qualify for admission into their main academic program at UTM.
Prerequisite Courses
No prerequisite courses are required for applicants who do not meet the specified criteria.
Admission Requirements via APEL (T-7)
This program accepts applicants with a Recognition of Prior Learning Accreditation (APEL) certificate for admission into the Master’s Degree program (APEL T-7) in Environmental Management.
Admission Requirements for Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
This program accepts applicants from the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, provided that:
candidates with physical disabilities that do not hinder practical work may be admitted into the program.
