"Chemical engineering is a field that impacts a wide range of
technological sectors. The demand for chemical engineers is high
due to the many industries that rely on chemical and material
synthesis and processing. Beyond traditional roles in chemical,
energy, and oil industries, chemical engineers are finding growing
opportunities in fields like biotechnology, pharmaceuticals,
electronics manufacturing, and environmental engineering. Their
specialized training is crucial in these areas, especially when
processes involve the chemical or physical transformation of
materials."

In this program, various engineering principles especially chemical and bioprocess are applied to design, develop and evaluate processes that utilize biological-based materials (eg:animals, plants, microorganisms) to produce products. Four years of intensive training, industrial exposure and state-of-the-art-technologies experience, pave the way for professional bioprocess engineering qualification. The graduates will be well-versed in mathematical-based engineering analysis and also biotechnology which will enable them to explain the physical, biological and chemical processes of complex biological systems and design processes that will yield products which could create wealth, promote health and promote sustainability. The sectors served by chemical-bioprocess engineers are pharmaceuticals, chemical products, personal care products, cosmetics, food, environment, agriculture, energy and many more.

This program offers the integration knowledge of chemical engineering and gas engineering. In this 4-year program, students will be equipped with basic engineering theory and chemical engineering fundamental such as chemical reaction engineering, heat and mass transfer, separation process, process control and instrumentaion and chemical plant design. In addition, they will be offered with specialised knowledge of gas engineering that involves processing, transmission, distribution, and gas utilization, while the interation knowledge of chemical engineering sllows the understanding of the process of converting resources into value-added products using the application of basic sciences and engineering principles to the development, design, operation and maintenance of processes. Expertise in process design, operation, project supervising, maintenance, research and management is very important in ensuring the success of these activities. This program also embeds the highly demanding skills of artificial intelligence for chemical-gas engineers, green and sustainable energy technologies as well as carbon capture, utilisation, utilisation and storage. The main task of chemical and gas engineers is to ensure that mid stream to downstream activities are carried out optimally, economically, safely, and without the effect of pollution on the environments and ecosystem. The combination of Gas and Chemical engineering will thus produce graduates with a broad range of physical and chemical processes which enables them to easily participate in a wide variety of industrial and governmental activities.

Nuclear Engineering programme is to train and prepare students to become nuclear engineers with the capability in designing, producing, constructing, RnD, maintenance, sales, consultancy, education, and training. Nuclear engineering deals with the practical application of nuclear processes. Nuclear engineering is based upon the extensive use of mathematics and physical principles. These principles are applied to radioactivity, nuclear interactions, and the interaction of radiation with materials. Further applications require the knowledge of energy removal and conversion, materials science, instrumentation and control, and chemistry. This program also embeds the knowledge of artificial intelligence for nuclear engineer as well as green and sustainable energy technologies. The programme was designed in such a graduate should be able to perform tasks and functions for a nuclear power program that require primarily nuclear-related qualifications, both in design and construction and in the operation of a nuclear power plant and in other nuclear related industries.

The Bachelor of Chemical Process Engineering with Honours (SMJCH) has been designed with a balanced curriculum to give students the knowledge and competency to work professionally as engineers. The curriculum covers basic engineering emphasis and specialisation in chemical engineering. The humanities elements are also embedded in producing well-rounded, morally sound, ethical engineers who communicate effectively. The Chemical Process Engineering program was designed for students who wish to acquire a solid foundation in chemical engineering with deep knowledge of the principles and practices of chemical engineering. This academic program is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA/FA9197) and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (2017-2028). It complies with engineering content defined by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and the Washington Accord.
The SMJCH courses are organised into 8 semesters. Semester 1 covers basic knowledge such as communication in English, Programming, Engineering Mathematics, and Introduction to Chemical Process Engineering. Students will be introduced to basic chemical engineering through Thermodynamics during the second semester. In addition, students will be introduced to general university courses such as Graduate Success Attributes. The following year (Semesters 3 and 4) will cover several chemistry and basic chemical engineering courses to develop strong fundamentals, such as Mass and Energy Balance, Fluid mechanics, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, and Transport Phenomena. The curriculum is designed to culminate the knowledge from the junior to senior years through thematic integrated projects, ultimately contributing to the mastery of the technical knowledge and soft skills. The projects will be concluded with the capstone project, which the students are expected to design a chemical plant that is technical and financially feasible to operate with avoiding environmental issues. The students will also be taking the undergraduate research project and undergo industrial training for a minimum of 12 weeks.
