When is the intake for new student?

Intake for new student is every February and September.  Application for Master and PhD by research-mode is open throughout the year and registration will be on February, May, September and November. However, candidate can register at any time at the Student Recruitment and Admission Division office at Block F54, UTM Johor Bahru, Johor , Malaysia OR School of Graduate Studies, Level 8, Menara Razak, UTM Kuala Lumpur

What is the entry requirement for Undegraduate study?

  • A Senior High School Certificate/Senior Secondary School/other equivalent pre-university qualifications from government schools (with a period of at least 12 years of study from primary to higher secondary), or
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘A’ Level , Diploma in the related field or other equivalent pre-university examinations, or
  • Other certificates recognized by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above, or
  • Specific requirements based on programmes, and
  • English Language requirements
    1. A minimum score of 500 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (or TOEFL (IBT) > 59) or;
    2. An overall band score of 5.5 in IELTS (Academic) or;
    3. An overall band score of 5.5 in TEEP (UTMSPACE) or;
    4. An overall band score of 3 in MUET (STPM holder) or;
    5. Completion of ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) Level 107 or higher. For more information about the ELS CIEP
  • Passed the UTM interview (if applicable)

What is the Health Requirement for International students?

You are required to undergo a compulsory medical check up in Malaysia (managed by the University) and you must be certified as being in good health and free from contagious/ infectious diseases or illness that will adversely affect your study. International students from the yellow fever endemic areas without a valid immunisation certificate will be immediately quarantined on arrival for 6 days minus the period of travel. The university has the right to withdraw this offer or to terminate you from your study if you are found to suffer from or to be a carrier of contagious/ infectious diseases, or to suffer from a medical condition requiring continuous medical care that will adversely affect your study at UTM.

What is the entry requirement for Postgraduate study?

Master’s Degree

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with good honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
  • A qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate

Doctor of Philosophy

  • A Master’s Degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate; or
  • Candidates who a currently registered in a Master’s Degree programme at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and approved by the Graduate Studies Committee of the respective faculty and the Senate.

What is the English Requirement for Nepalese?

  1. Candidates who had completed their high school from the following countries [CLICK HEREare exempted from UTM English Requirement.
  2. Candidates from Indonesia, Brunei and South Thailand (eg: Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkla, Satun and others provinces whose major population is made up of Malays) are exempted from the UTM English language requirements based on the following conditions: a) Students are required to attend an IELTS/TOEFL Preparation Course conducted by Language Academy in UTM; b) Students must fulfill the minimum English language requirement (IELTS/TOEFL) within 4 semesters of study; and c) Students must submit a copy of IELTS/TOEFL certificate to Student Recruitment & Admission Division, Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) within 4 semesters of study.
  3. Candidates from International Schools, A-Level and International Baccalaureate qualifications are exempted from the UTM English language requirement.
  4. Students who are unable to submit IELTS/TOEFL certificate are required to attend either Intensive English Programme (IEP) conducted by UTM Language Academy and pass IELTS with minimum Band 5.5 OR Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) conducted by ELS Language Center and pass level 107 or higher.

Where can i get more information about VISA Application?

As of 1st April 2016, international students have  to apply online for their Visa Approval Letter (VAL) through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) . It advisable student to apply VAL  minimum 6 WEEKS before your registration date.
